Despite the lackluster appeal of motion picture adaptations of video games, super Hollywood producer Jerry Bruckheimer remains positive that one day, they just might get it right. And it won’t suck the living daylights out of us anymore.

Asked why the adaptations haven’t been working thus far, he answered:

I couldn’t tell you that. They just haven’t quite captured the imagination of the audience yet, but they will. I think it will definitely happen, whether we do it or other people do it.

What I could tell, though, is that there is a lot of high expectations yet again for his adaptation of Prince of Persia. Come to think of it, we ourselves continue to hope that one day these adaptations will work. No matter how much these films fail in the box office, we still wait for the next adaptation anyway.

Anyhow, Van Toffler, president of MTV Networks is also hopeful that Bruckheimer can work his magic and take MTV “out of its comfort zone of rhythmic gaming like The Beatles: Rock Band (PS3, Xbox 360, Wii) and attract more females,” following their deal back in 2007.

Story-driven.

Stated Toffler:

I see more of a connection to women coming to gaming as being a spark for Jerry Bruckheimer’s style of storytelling coming to gaming. Gaming is really starting to explode with women, particularly story-driven games like The Sims. I think Jerry has managed to bring both men and women into his storytelling from Pirates of the Caribbean to National Treasure. He does a great blend of action in storytelling and moving narrative forward.

Not too lofty considering how data does support the statement that women are more inclined to gaming now than before. Even though I would have to ask: The Sims is story-driven?

Brutal Legend - Image 1The rumor about a Wii version of Electronic ArtsBrutal Legend has been going around for quite some time now. But even though we never really got a confirmation or denial from EA regarding this, we’re now confronted with the rumor that the game’s already been canned.

Destructoid reports that accoding to their sources, EA really was working on Brutal Legend for the Wii, even though it wasn’t Double Fine taking in the reins of this particular project. Back up a tiny. Did you notice that italicized tiny word back there? “Was“. That’s right. Past tense.

It is now said that the project will no longer push through because it’s been “canceled due to quality and technical concerns.” As for the assurance testers who were supposedly hired for the job - they’ve been let go seeing as how their services are no longer needed for a halted project.

And amidst all this, we have EA, still sitting quietly in the corner, not saying a word about the alleged Wii version of Brutal Legend and its supposed subsequent canning.

Brutal Legend is coming out on the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360 in October.

Is Paul W.S. Anderson gearing up to make a new Resident Evil film? The answer would be yes, according to film website ShockTillYouDrop. A studio insider supposedly told them that Sony is in fact scheduling a release for September 17, 2010. This would be followed later on by a confirmation of the release date via an internal memo circulating the office.

Are we going to Tokyo?

It was late in 2008 when director Paul W.S. Anderson revealed that he was writing another film, saying that he was “excited” about it. We were also told then that Capcom was getting involved. And now, it is reportedly confirmed that a Resident Evil 4 is indeed in the works, under the title of “Resident Evil: Afterlife”.

Given how Resident Evil: Extinction ended - Mila Jovovich and her clones were getting ready to attack Umbrella Corp in Tokyo - it is highly possible that Tokyo will be the new setting of the said film. Now wouldn’t that be just cool?

Zelda Wii concept art - Image 1In the latest edition of Nintendo Power, Nintendo massive man Shigeru Miyamoto himself answered the question on whether or not Zelda will to stick to the formula or veer off into an entirely new path. Just how different will Zelda Wii be from the earlier iterations of the franchise?

Stated Miyamoto: I don’t think it’s going to be that radically different.” Easy, straight to the point. Therefore, we’ll be seeing more of that classic taste so familiar to our tastebuds. And fans will just probably have to wait until the next one before we see any major changes.

For a franchise that’s well-known for its long-standing formula, how do you make it evolve without losing your loyal fanbase?

Now this is one Dragon Ball title you should definitely look into. Dragon Ball: Revenge of King Piccolo is a nice cartoony RPG based from the non-overpowered adventures of Goku as the tiny monkey boy. No Super Saiyans and take-forever-to-kill Freezas here, just the Red Ribbon Army, the wacky old characters from Dragon Ball, and the stretchy stick that Goku never needed as an adult. Check it out.

I really liked what I saw. Fortunately, Namco Bandai has scheduled a North American release for this game later this year, while Japan gets a head begin on July 23rd.

So the picture’s getting more massive. Is the hint getting clearer too?

UPDATE

The sketch just got a new character in the teaser. A girl this time, who seems to be along for the ride, but it really doesn’t get us any closer to figuring this one out just yet.

Harry’s sixth year at Hogwarts will soon be out in cinemas, but here we have the accompanying video game, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, coming out before the movie, so fans can get sneak peeks through the game.

As serious as the plot gets in the sixth book, Half-Blood Prince will still have time for teenage antics, potions, and of course, Quidditch. Yes, there will be Quidditch gameplay and potion-brewing sessions with Horace Slughorn. Gotta stay in the Slug Club, yes? More importantly, there are wizard duels as well, where you and a friend can go head-to-head and see who would make a superior DA member.

So until the movie’s out, the game will have to do for now. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is available now for Xbox 360, PS3, PSP, PS2, Wii, DS, and PC.
