This week sees another duo of titles available for play. One of them is N64 title Cruis’n USA, while the other launches a new system on the Virtual Console for North America. Hit up the video above for your usual dose, then head past the break for some added fun.
Cruis’n USA (N64, 1-2 players, 1,000 Wii Points) Wii Fanboy says: do not download
It’s not that Cruis’n USA is a bad game; this blogger can easily recall fond memories of enjoying his new N64 with this game. But, the game hasn’t held up that well over time. The controls aren’t all too responsive and, let’s face it: this game can be found for a lot cheaper than $10. If you already own a N64, you likely have this game. If not, there are better N64 games to download.
Wonder Boy is a very solid platformer and a bit of a Super Mario Bros. clone. Well, actually, it’s a downright clone, but it’s still a good game. It’s fun, has great sprites and is pretty challenging, even today. Although we would’ve liked it to be priced at 400 Wii Points, an extra 100 Wii Points isn’t going to break the deal for us. Give this one a download.
That concludes our look at this week’s Virtual Console games. As always, if you have any tips or rumors regarding Nintendo’s Virtual Console service, be sure to let us know and come back next week when we take a look at the latest titles available on the Nintendo Wii!
One of the many games Wii owners can look forward to when WiiWare launches (outside of Japan, that is) is Dr. Mario Virus Buster. This latest Dr. Mario revival has Mario dropping killing them nasty viruses, motion-sensing style.
Here are two new videos from Revver giving us an in-depth tour or Dr. Mario Virus Buster, which is already out in Japan. Even in Japanese, the game looks really fun (the narration in the videos are in English though, don’t worry).
The first video talks about gameplay, modes, and features that are included in the game. You might want to see the new Wii point-and-click mode for this Dr. Mario game featured near the end of the video. The second video is about the game’s WiFi features.
In case you were wondering, Dr. Mario Virus Buster will be available for 1000 Wii Points (US 10) when it launches. Here are the videos:
As much as we love ourselves some Space Invaders and Pac-Man, it’s always nice to see some other game or franchise covered on craft site Etsy. When said game happens to be one of this blogger’s fondest memories from ye olde NES days, it’s all the better! This (gender-neutral) Excitebike bracelet from Etsy user pixelparty is a snip at $15, and if yours truly hadn’t already put money aside for Mario Kart Wii, you’d better believe this would be on my wrist as I typed.
Incidentally, we previously covered some of pixelparty’s bracelets in our Valentine’s Day feature earlier this year. Check out the gallery below for more of his excellent handiwork.
We didn’t even realize what vaguely familiar song was being mashed up in this Battle of the Bandstrailer for a minute — it sounded cool, and it was exciting, and it seemed like the kind of thing we would enjoy playing in a rhythm game. Then the “Latin” version kicked in and we figured it out — it’s Gorillaz’ “Feel Good Inc.”! Hearing our favorite songs in so many different styles is going to be novel for a long time.
As for the actual gameplay, we aren’t quite sure how the waving-based control scheme will hold up. We hope it works as well as the musical concept of the game.
For those of you who are not familiar with this title, Protothea is a PC game developed by Argentinian developer, Digital Builders. It’s basically a shoot-em-up title released back in 2005. In the game, you are a ship pilot with dangerous missions to carry out in your enemy’s territory.
It actually is reminiscent of the arcade franchise, Raiden, in gameplay, with its top-down shooter mechanics. Or maybe even Twin Bee from FamiCom. Not that you’ll get to shoot flying ice creams and candies here. But still, we just might get lucky.

Fans of the long-running franchise are getting much love with the introduction of a new tag team system with “hot tags” that can change the flow of things and the option to go online in two-versus-two. As we mentioned before, there will also be a co-op story mode and a bigger bag of tandem tricks in the ring.
WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2009 is slated for release this fall across all platforms. While waiting, you can check out its first trailer for the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions.
Looks like we’ve been fooled! If today is going to be any kind of indicator for the future, all Sega Master System games won’t be the cheap 400 Wii Points per download we initially thought. Instead, the games will cost the same as NES titles. Eh, what’s an extra dollar, right?
Today’s Virtual Console releases are:
Cruis’n USA (N64, 1-2 players, 1,000 Wii Points)
Wonder Boy (Sega Master System, 1-2 players, 500 Wii Points)
As usual, be sure to stop back later for our video wrap-up of this week’s Virtual Console games.
Got a really good adrenaline rush from playing Capcom’s MotoGP games? If you did, then we suggest to prepare as there’s more from where it came from. Capcom has just acquired rights to bring this particular gaming franchise to different platforms.
This particular deal will be running for five years and will take over the existing rights that Capcom obtained last year for the release of MotoGP 07 for the PS3. The platforms covered in the deal include Sony’s PlayStation3, Microsoft’s Xbox 360, Nintendo’s Wii, the PC, and mobile phones.
With this accomplishment, more and more people will be able to experience the high of playing the racing games under this franchise. Aside from this, players are treated to products of top motorcycle manufacturers such as Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, Ducati, Kawasaki, KTM, and Aprilia. Regarding this recent success, Mark Beaumont, head of Capcom consumer software publishing in the Americas and Europe, said:
We are very excited to have signed this long term agreement with Dorna Sports, which for the first time grants one publisher worldwide multi-platform rights to the adrenaline fueled world of MotoGP.
We feel this move to a single publisher will greatly benefit our ability to develop titles that deliver more authenticity and excitement to the consumer
