Wii homebrew developer waninkoko has released an update to one of his more popular programs, the Custom IOS Downgrader. If you missed the previous releases, this program allows you to downgrade your Wii’s firmware.
I’m not exactly sure what the changes in this version are, as no changelog was provided. Even though waninkoko did provide a short (although vague) description of what’s new, the Googled translation was mangled up enough so as the changes are still vague. Still, it’s what we’ve to go on.
Here is the Google-translated message from waninkoko. If you can provide a superior translation of the original Spanish for us (follow the source link below), please drop a yell in the comments section.
This new version is quite improved. First download all the data to the NAND and install them once they’re downloaded. Thereby avoiding the downgrade to stay half a failure to connect to the Internet.
In addition, the CB downgradea / mine (applications to run games GC.
Download: Custom IOS Downgrader v1.2

We know the game’s supposed to hit sometime this fall, but Activision have thus far been tight lipped about a specific release date for Call of Duty: World at War. Gentlemen, gather round, we’ve narrowed it down to November… maybe. Perhaps.
Why maybe? Where’d this news come from? Hit the jump, details within.
So here’s the skinny, all the folks at Only The Games would state was that an unnamed Activision rep at X’08 (Microsoft’s Canadian holiday showcase for the Xbox platform) told them the game would in fact be in gamers hands this November. So it’s a case of he said she said then, brilliant! Naturally it should be assumed that this nameless (and hopefully faceless too) representative was referring to the Computer, PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game, however it seems likely the Wii version will hit day and date.
Hopefully we’ll get official word soon, but until then I’m thinkin’ just before Turkey Day sounds about right. I offer my sincere apologies for the use of “rat-at-at-cat.jpg”.

At the Golden Joystick Awards, we get to vote for the best games we’ve played this year. Sometimes though, there are games in development that are looking so good that they deserve an award themselves.
I can name several off the top of my head - Heavy Rain, Prince of Persia, and Mirror’s Edge. Fortunately, they’re all part of the new category that the Golden Joystick Awards opened up for us to vote in: the Edge Most Wanted Golden Joystick. It lets us vote for our most anticipated game that’s currently in development.
There are 10 games up for the award. Now if only I have the ability to decide which one to vote for. I’m wondering why the Fabula Nova Crystallis series (otherwise known as the Final Fantasy XIII collection) isn’t on there. I guess it’s because the release date is too far off? Anyway, it’s our chance to give developers the recognition they deserve.
Here’s the shortlist of games you can vote for in the “Most Wanted” category. You can vote by following the source link below:
- Mirror s Edge
- Infamous
- Left 4 Dead
- Fallout 3
- Prince Of Persia
- Resident Evil 5
- Heavy Rain
- Animal Crossing: City Folk
- Bayonetta
- Far Cry 2

Even though Super Mario RPG wasn’t initially released in Europe back in 1996, the region will now be officially introduced to the game by way of the Wii’s Virtual Console service. The game should be available by today.
The game - starring Mallow, Geno, and the rest of the gang from the Mario World (even Bowser) - will be available for 900 Wii points.
The game was officially released in Japan’s Virtual Console in July, making the US the odd one out. No word yet on when the region will get the game.

German publisher and developer Daedalic Entertainment has just sent us a press wire revealing their line-up at the ongoing Games Convention in Leipzig. Certainly to watch out for are the new assets of upcoming The Whispered World (PC, DS) and A New Beginning, as well as the first look for the DS port of Edna & Harvey: The Breakout.

The Whispered World brings you to a world of fantasy as young clown Sadwick and sidekick Spot go on a dangerous journey in classic point & click tradition. The backgrounds are hand-painted filled with animated details, keeping with the true feel of classic animation to bring the fairy-tale story to life.
A New Beginning, on the other hand, provides for a rather interesting concept as it is an interactive eco-thriller. The players must avert disaster by averting global climate cataclysm. This will be going to the PC, DS, and Wii.

Meanwhile, Edna & Harvey: The Breakout (PC, DS) is another point & click adventure game. Edna wakes up in an insane asylum with no memory of how she got there. She does have a future to look forward to, and so she plans her escape. She doesn’t think she’s ill, either - an observation that her stuffed bunny Harvey concurs with.
These games and more are to be presented at the Leipzig Games Convention 2008 in Germany. Daedalic Entertainment has their presentation booth positioned at hall 2, booth F10. So if you want to find out more about these games, then do head on over to their booth if you’re in the event.
For those who are not able to make it, don’t feel too bad. We’ve got the screenshots for you.

The wait is finally over for Electronic Arts — at least as far as the Fedral Trade Commission is concerned. A couple of months ago, EA made an agreement with the FTC stating that they will hold out on buying Take-Two until one of these two things happen: a) FTC finishes its investigation on the takeover bid, or b) 45 days pass after EA complies with an information request from FTC.
Well it looks like it’s scenario A that happened as the Federal Trade Commission has now given EA the green light on their proposal for the Take-Two acquisition. The conclusion of the non-public investigation, which was to determine whether EA’s acquisition of T2 might violoate Section 7 of the Clayton Act or Section 5 of the FTC Act, was that the potential merger would not substantially lessen competition in the games market.
A letter sent by the FTC to both companies involved read, “Upon further review of this matter, it now appears that no additional action by the Commission is warranted at this time. Accordingly, the investigation has been closed.”
Talks are still going on between the two companies, but it does look like it’s about to come to a close. What’s keeping the debate raging on is the issue on the appropriate per-share asking price. With this FTC development, it looks like Pachter sure is a step closer to proving his prediction true: EA will win out this round.

We just got confirmation that the Wii version of Guitar Hero: World Tour will be including a one-of-a-kind mode exclusive, quite obviously, to the Wii console. It’s going to be called the Mii Freestyle mode and as the name implies, grants you to use your Miis while playing jamming with your friends.
The “Freestyle” part is a bit unclarified yet though. Chances are, this mode will basically be like a training area where you can just, well, freestyle to your heart’s content, jamming and hitting some notes without fear of getting that stingy Fail grade.
Some other new information has also cropped up: one regarding controllers. It looks like you’ll be able to use the Wiimote Nunchuk combination to play air guitar or air drums as well.

Over at the ongoing Leipzig Games Convention, Codemasters has released screenshots for several of their upcoming games, including Overlord: Dark Legend, which they revealed is being developed exclusively for the Wii. If you’re looking for a hardcore (albeit comedic) game for the Wii, you might want to look forward to that one.
Along with Overlord: Dark Legend, they also released screenshots for Overlord: Minions for the Nintendo DS. This game will star the minions from the original Overlord game back in 2007. There are also screenshots for Operation Flashpoint 2: Dragon Rising, an upcoming shooter, and Rise of the Argonauts, an RPG that will send you on a quest for the legendary Golden Fleece.
