Bond is back with a vengeance. “Vengeance” here can mean many different things, but for our current purposes, vengeance comes in the form Bond’s latest weapons and gadgetry. Fine, there’s no Q in the Quantum of Solace motion picture, but that doesn’t mean Bond’s devoid of an arsenal fit to wage a war of his own with.
Here we’ve a video interview with Dan Moditch, assistant art director in Activision’s Quantum of Solace game. He speaks about the different kinds of weapons featured in the game, plus a whole slew of gameplay clips interspersed throughout.
Check out the boss battle with the helicopter towards the end. It looks mad cool and all… but I’m not entirely sure if the MythBusters approve of exploding automobiles care of bullets.
Love ‘em or hate ‘em, but Call of Duty games set in World War II- may still be coming down the road according to Call of Duty: World at War (PS3, Xbox 360, Computer, Wii, DS) developer Treyarch.
“I can’t state that there won’t ever be a WWIICall of Duty game again, but we’re glad we were able to end the war and we’re glad we’re going to support the title with lots of downloadable content,” stated senior producer Noah Heller in a recent interview with CVG.
Even though Heller stated that “the war is over” with World at War, he also added that Treyarch would have wanted to show the war’s end from many different countries’ perspectives. “Maybe that’s a story still untold.”
Heller pointed out that “people definitely haven’t seen the final charge of the Red Army, people haven’t seen what the fighting was like in Okinawa”, suggesting that if Treyarch ever makes another WWII-set Call of Duty game, it could very well focus on these events.
Snes9X GX gets another heavy update from developers tantric and michniewski. The emulator gets several new features as well as major bug fixes.
Of the more notable new features is added video support, added compressed file support, and faster SD and USB access. Here’s the changelog for version 006:
Ok, this is getting old. The Xbox 360 beat the PlayStation 3 in Japan. Again. Oh, and the Wii beat their numbers. Combined. Also the same old story. But just in case you guys wanted to know.
In case you were living under a rock, you should know that the Xbox 360 has been outselling the PlayStation 3 since last month. I wonder just for how much longer a price drop can keep the Xbox 360 floating in Japan.
Then again, they made a good move focusing on RPGs for the region, so there’s a good chance we’ll see this trend continue all the way till Christmas.
So. What does the final TGS attendance tally read? Why… it’s over nine thousaaaand!!! Oh, hell yeah, it’s way over nine thousand indeed. CESA, the guys who organized the event, released the final number of attendees for this year’s Tokyo Game Show.
Compared to last year, TGS 08 has gotten about a thousand more attendees, thus setting a new record for highest turnout in TGS history. Let’s bring up the numbers!
TGS 07 total: 193,040
TGS 08 total: 194,288
To break down the numbers from TGS this year, the first two days (the one restricted only to press and business outfits) had a lower attending population by 10,690 vistors compared to last year. The next two days, however, (the ones dedicated to the public) showed a higher turnout by an increase of 11,938 visitors.
Word on the street is that The Ghostbusters video game (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, DS) was picked up by Atari, but still won’t be released till next year.
How many more months before I have the ability to toast the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man? Gah, so sad.
On a side note, it’s also good to see that Atari isn’t limiting itself to on the web gaming yet, as it promised to do so last month. If Ghostbusters becomes a hit (and I’m sure it will), perhaps things might even turn around for them.
Wiibrew developer emu_kidid has released a new version of SD-Boot, a Wii app that lets users launch GameCube homebrew on the Nintendo Wii. Here’s what’s new in SD-Boot v0.4:
Repairs a lot of games such as Metroid Prime 2, Metal Gear Solid.
Disable Disturbs in the settings if a game doesn’t work or hangs randomly (this actually works a whole lot better now)
Time for our monthly dosage of analyst guesstimates.
Ahead of the official sales numbers of the NPD Group, both analyst firms Wedbush Morgan (with posterboy Michael Pachter) and EEDAR predict that the Xbox 360 whooped the PlayStation 3 for the month of September.
Massive surprise. In Japan, it was already reported that the Xbox 360 outsold the PlayStation 3 for the entire month of September, thanks to the massive price cut that Microsoft introduced. No shocker if the same thing happened in North America.
EEDAR believes that the Xbox 360 only outsold the PlayStation 3 by about 105k for the month, while Pachter is less optimistic, saying it had outsold the PS3 by as much as 125k. Strange, knowing that he’s been all gung ho for the Sony console before.
As for the Wii, well, it’s also not surprising that no one seems to be worried about it. Anyway, here are the numbers they figure the consoles sold last month:
Wiibrew developer Hell Hibou has released a new version the Wii Homebrew Launcher, a GUI for organizing Wiibrew in the stylings of the Wii Menu.
One of the major appeals with the Wii Homebrew Launcher is the ability to customize each “channel” that represents the homebrew.
This version has several new features, with emphasis given to supporting external data storage, including USB and DVD-R. Here’s the changelog from Hell Hibou - translation provided by Google:
The ‘Restart Loader’ back to the loader mode chain but does not yet with all the homebrew.
The transition from command line argument is fully functional and is used in the loading of all homebrew (argc and argv).
Capability to load homebrew from a server SMB (Windows Sharing).
Ability to load homebrew from a USB device.
Capability to load homebrew from a DVD-R (ISO9660/Joliet).
Last day of a libogc (20080920).
Added detection is how my launch Wii Homebrew Launcher (since TP hack or from a chain) and activates the appropriate functionalized (1 single version. Fraud instead of a version for string and 1 version for the TP hack ).
