Homebrew coder Daid has released GuitarsOnFire, a GuitarHero clone just like Guitarfun and FretsOnFire for the Nintendo Wii. The homebrew uses FretsOnFire compatible songs and supports playing single songs from SD card.
The current version can support up to five players in quick play mode with four guitars and one USB keyboard. In future update, the dev plans to improve the GFX, fix the scoring system and add more game modes.

Siliconera reports that Konami has recently filed a trademark for “Genso Suikoden” in the US. Yeah, it’s for the Japanese series name, which kinda dilutes the possibility of an actual new game in the long-running RPG series.
Still, the last filing — for Suikoden Tierkreis — bore fruit, so hopefully this trademark filing will yield another new game. Maybe we’ll finally get a current-gen Suikoden. That or Konami is finally getting around to releasing that Suikoden 1 and #@ !7 8#@ ! PSP compilation outside Japan.

This year, fans of point-and-click adventure games will be treated to a revamped version of LucasArts‘ The Secret of Monkey Island which which will be released as a digital download on Xbox 360 and Computer.
Craig Derrick, the producer of The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition, intimated to the Guardian that PS3 and Wii owners might get the game as well. When asked why Xbox Live and not WiiWare or PSN, Derrick stated,
Well, we never stated we wouldn’t be on Wiiware or PSN now did we? … We might have another platform announcement to make very, very soon.
The possibility of similar special edition re-releases for other LucasArts adventure games also exists, but it all ultimately hinges on how well The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition does.
…The special edition is really a great big experiment to see what interest there is for these types of games and if people are interested in playing them on a console. If the fans really respond well, then I think it will be tough to say no to another one.
Long story short, if you want to see more of these games then make sure to buy the special edition. Get your friends to purchase it too, for that matter.

Texas-based studio Gearbox has confirmed that that they’ve indeed trademarked the “War Hero” IP. Superannution has reported that there are actually four titles stringed to this new IP, filed on June 18th of this year.
The four titles registered in the USTPO would be: “World War II Hero”, “War Hero”, “Brothers in Arms War Hero”, and “Modern War Hero”. CEO Randy Ptichford had this to state about their new IPs:
The news of the Gearbox Software “War Hero” related trademarks exposes a bit about our interests in the development of another original intellectual property. As people following gaming news know, Gearbox is really motivated right now to take some bold risks and do exciting new things that no one has ever seen before, such as Borderlands (PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC). War Hero is something down the road for us — it’s not signed with a publishing partner yet as we haven’t even talked to any potential partners about it. So we’re certainly not ready to speak about it publicly at the moment.

Pink/ it’s my new obsession. / Pink/ it’s not even a question. / Pink/ on the lips of your lover/ cause pink is the love you discover. Yes, Aerosmith played prophet back in the nineties and predicted: Pink is the new kinda lingo. But will Gundam fans enjoy it when they see their favorite robot donning it?

It’s teaser site countdown time again, this time Square Enix.com Japan is counting the hours until they reveal more info about their new game. The page features a plain sketch of a simple landscape with only a big number four providing the only solid clue as to what it’ll be.

There aren’t any flashing letters and numbers, and there aren’t any character faces to be seen, so this one will be much less excruciating than all the staring that we had to do with the Kojima teaser page before E3.
Judging by the “4″ on the page, it’s likely that this new game will be the next installment to a three-game series. Taking into account that this year marks the SaGa series’ 20th anniversary, could this be a SaGa 4?
Interesting theories, anyone?

This week sure has been a quite one for Ninty. Early prepping for TGS maybe? At any rate, there are still a few tidbits to be read in this week’s recap, the biggest being Shia LeBeouf’s anti-Wii comments that may have lost him a few fans and earned him a lot of flames. Catch that and more on this edition of the Nintendo Weekend Warrior.
Games
- Leave it to Tingle to star in not one, but two Zelda spinoff games. The trippy 35-year-old tights-wearing weirdo from Majora’s Mask has been confirmed to be the unlikely face of two new Nintendo titles for the DS. Link
- The Wii joins the downloadable Final Fantasy craze as Square Enix announces the arrival of the 1990 installment of their top franchise into the Virtual Console, Final Fantasy III next month. Link
- D3Publisher sent out a press release announcing their latest offering of fun for the whole family, Family Party: 30 Great Games Outdoor Fun. Made exclusively for the Wii, it is sure to engage everyone in the family to join in on a variety of fun activities like martial arts, team sports, individual athletics, and challenging brain games. Link
Nintendo
- Getting stronger with The Force, the Wii is. Bensussen Deutsch & Associates has announced that they’re manufacturing licensed Lightsaber accessories to give you the extra Jedi Knight feel when playing Star Wars games on your Wii. Also available are Clone Trooper blasters, in case you want to play the generic flunky. Link
- Speaking with Large Download on the video game adaptation of his latest motion picture, actor Shia LaBeouf unloads a few on the Wii, saying, “it’s kind of an amateur console. I’m not into the Wii thing.” Link
Homebrew
- Just because the Wiibrew stalwarts haven’t been active lately doesn’t mean there aren’t any quality brews out there to tinker with. Seien released the inital version of WiiSpace earlier this week, adding another promising retro space shooter for the Wiibrew scene. Link
- wiisixtyfour released a new build for Waninkoko’s Savegame manager, offering some variety to the original release. Link

I kinda feel bad for Midway. They just can’t get a break. After getting a US 33M bid from Warner last month, here comes another lawsuit that could make the Warner deal fall through.
GamePolitics is reporting that Lawrence Kasanoff, the guy behind the Mortal Kombat movies, TV show and animated series, is suing Midway in order to preserve his IP rights including copyrights to certain MK series characters.
He also wants to retain rights to create derivative film and Television projects based on the fighting game series. In short, he wants to be able to keep milking the hell out of the franchise. Kasanoff also claims that it wasn’t Midway who made the series and its characters popular, it was him all along:
In 1993, Kasanoff visited Midway… with an idea to launch the Mortal Kombat concept in a absolutely new direction. Specifically, Kasanoff proposed to develop… a full feature-length motion picture, a TV series, and other productions. Midway was initially skeptical, as Kasanoff’s idea was revolutionary at the time…
